How is Hive different from SYP or YPAL?

SYP and YPAL are young professional communities focused on connection, development and civic involvement. Hive is a referral group. Its purpose is to pass business between a vetted, committed set of members, one per industry, while building the kind of long-term relationships that outlast a single deal. Many young professionals join both kinds: a community group widens your circle, and a referral group deepens a few business relationships.

How is Hive different from Louisville's referral groups?

Louisville's referral groups are well established and mostly open to professionals at every career stage. Hive is built specifically for young professionals in the growth stage of their careers, admits members by application and meets monthly. What is Hive Network?

Hive Network is an application-only referral networking group that started in Central Indiana. It runs colonies in Carmel, Fishers, Southside and Westfield. Each colony holds one seat per industry, meets monthly and admits members through an application, a personality assessment and an interview. As of October 2026, Hive had 76 active members, 157 referrals passed and $234,166 in closed business, all logged in the Hive member portal.

Louisville sits close to Hive's home market and shares a similar business culture, which is why it is on the longer-term map. Hive does not have a colony in Louisville yet. A new city launches when a local champion steps up to lead it and at least 15 members are signed and ready. The process runs on a 90-day timeline: founding members put down a deposit, meet virtually with a Hive Director while the colony builds, and can attend Hive's larger events in the meantime. Once 15 members are signed, the meeting location is set and the colony launches. If you want to be the champion, apply at /start-a-colony.

Which Louisville industries are strongest for referral networking?

Louisville's referral groups have historically drawn heavily from real estate, mortgage lending, insurance, financial planning, law, accounting, home services and B2B services, the same mix that works in Indianapolis. Southern Indiana communities like Jeffersonville and New Albany are part of the same market for many professionals, which widens the referral pool.

What should you ask before joining a Louisville group?

  • Is my category open, and how is it defined?
  • How often does it meet? Weekly, twice a month or monthly.
  • Who is in the room? Career stage matters if you want peers.
  • What does it produce? Members, referrals and closed business, with dates.
  • What does it cost all in?
